THE NEXT CHAPTER

The kind of filly worth being patient for.

Caragh Dochas is a 2024 filly by Tacitus out of Caragh Queen. She came onto our radar with a deep female family, a balanced frame and the kind of athletic movement that makes you stop and look again.

But this was never a one-person find. Wilson Colindres had already identified her before I ever asked him to review my shortlist—and what he knew about the filly and the people behind her became an essential part of the decision.

HIP 982 · A YOUNG FILLY

Built on a strong foundation.

Before the breeze, before the hammer and before she became ours, there was already plenty to like. By Tacitus and out of Caragh Queen, Caragh brought together a classic pedigree and the physical presence to match it.

WILSON SAW HER FIRST

Two shortlists. The same filly.

Wilson had already tried to buy her privately for a smaller number. He knew the people behind her were great horse people, but not sales people. She had not been overly prepped for the auction, and Wilson saw a few other details that made him believe her breeze might be slow enough for us to find a bargain.

When I picked her from the Second Chance Sale and asked Wilson to review my shortlist, he called immediately. She was already on his list too. He had picked out the same filly before I ever sent her name.

That call was the moment a promising horse became something we had to pursue.
“

Wilson had already picked her out. When two sets of eyes landed on the same horse for the same reasons, we knew we had something.

NATURAL ABILITY

Then she surprised everyone.

Wilson expected a slower breeze. Instead, Caragh went ten flat and galloped out in 34 and change. No breeze rider—the advantage most horses at the sale use—just an exercise rider and a filly showing her natural ability.

Put the time together with the 25.2-foot stride, her pedigree, her physical and everything Wilson knew about her preparation, and the picture became clear: we had found something.

FROM THE SHORTLIST TO OUR BARN

Every trusted voice mattered.

I called Eric Foster. Eric called Omar Ramirez and asked him to inspect her personally at OBS. Omar gave us the thumbs up, and we bought her for $34,000. Dunamis owns 75% of Caragh in partnership with Eric.

We initially sent Caragh to Omar because we had not decided whether to put her back through the June sale. Once we saw her class—and considered what the resale market was likely to return—we made the decision to keep her.

THE FIRST MONTH WITH OMAR

Class made the decision.

Caragh’s first month with Omar gave us the chance to watch her settle, train and begin showing who she was away from the sale. The more we saw, the less interested we were in selling her again.

AT ELLIS PARK WITH ERIC FOSTER

The work continues.

After her early foundation with Omar, Caragh joined Eric Foster at Ellis Park. Each morning brings another lesson—from moving comfortably with company to learning the starting gate and settling into the rhythm of the barn.

THE FAMILY BEHIND HER

A pedigree with depth.

Caragh is by Tacitus—Tapit’s multiple graded-stakes-winning son out of champion Close Hatches—and out of the Hard Spun mare Caragh Queen.

Her second dam, Grade 3 winner Above Perfection, produced Grade 1 winners Always Dreaming and Hot Dixie Chick. The family also includes Grade 1 winner Pauline’s Pearl, Union Jackson and Grade 2 winner Positive Spirit.

PEDIGREE · POSSIBILITY · PATIENCE

Her story is still being written.

Caragh is still at the beginning of her story. Her job is to develop. Our job is to listen, stay patient and give her every chance to become the horse she is meant to be.
